An article at this blog states very well the problem of government employees' pay gorwing faster than employees in the private sector. Total compensation of federal state and local government employees nationwide is $1,000,000,000,000. That's one trillion dollars.

If, as the article states, public sector wages are increasing by five percent while private sector waqges remain flat, that's a $50,000,000,000 ($50 billion) difference. This, as we often say about government spending these days, is unsustainable. We know about the problems in California and how public employee pensions alone are creating problems with the ability of government to meet its liabilities. This agian goes to show how public employee unions have too much power over policymakers at the federal, state and local level. |

We found a website recently that clocks the U. S. national debt in real time. Additionally, it clocks other budget items, such as medicare, as well as consumer debt and the national trade deficit. Scary but interesting website.

OK, we admit it. We love charts and graphs here at East Central Taxpayers. We don't necessarily like what the charts and graphs are telling us these days, but they seem to make the case that higher taxes are not the solution to balancing the state and federal budgets. Here is a chart the shows the growth of governemnt spending here in Minnesota from 1960 to present. We're not under-taxed. We're over-spending.

April 13th is Tax Freedom Day in Minnesota this year. The Tax Foundation recognizes Tax Freedom Day nationwide, which the group deems to be April 9th. Different states may have a different Tax Freedom Day depending on the level of taxation in each particular state.
Tax Freedom Day is based on the concept that you begin the year working to pay your tax liabilities to Federal, state and local government entities. Once you are done working for the government, you begin working for yourself.

The Democrat Majority in the Minnesota House of Representatives rammed through $1,000,000,000+ of borrowing Monday without allowing debate on the bills passage. The MN House GOP Caucus blog has a video that shows some of the lowlights of the Democrats' heavy-handed style of running the Minnesota House.
